May he rest in peace. It is certainly saddening to hear.

At least we gave it a try rescuing instead of leaving him to rot at the tender mercies of scumbags like the others who have been beheaded by IS. Perhaps a policy shift is in the offing.
Unfortunately, bad guys around the world will take note and make adjustments, and pulling off a rescue will be very difficult.

I hope his family can find solace in the thought that his government did everything possible to save him.

CPT Aaron Kletzing, I hope our operators are keeping their knives sharp. If we knew enough to launch a rescue attempt, we ought to have a pretty good idea who they are and where they are.

I wonder who leaked this information. Certainly not SOCOM or SOCCENT.

1SG (Join to see) Yes, I totally agree -- at least we sent our best operators to try to rescue this individual. The outcome is tragic, though I think it would have been the same outcome if we had done nothing. Maybe even worse. Perhaps they would have subjected him to months of torture and pleas for mercy that would have flooded the internet and wreaked havoc on his loved ones.

I do appreciate the message the US is sending to would-be captors of innocent Americans. You want to try to extort millions of dollars from their families by taking them prisoner? No. Not going to work. You're not getting your money. Instead, we will send Special Forces your way in the middle of the night, when you least expect it, and they will bring the long arm of freedom to your doorstep. Careful what you wish for.
