I've been doing it for 20 yrs. The hours are long but the work requires you to think. The biggest satisfaction is when you work on a bird that takes off with 2 lives aboard and they go protect hundreds on the ground. Foot soldiers love nothing more than seeing one of our birds covering the butts.

As previously mentioned day to day can definitely vary, flight company day to day is inspections, launching/recovering aircraft, and ensuring all assigned aircraft have available hours for pending mission sets assigned, there is a lot of detailed planning and preparation involved so for the previous comment about flight companies going home early everyday that's either a testament to a good maintenance program and the work is done, or a bad maintenance program and things are being missed and not tended to properly. Delta company maintenance is a different animal all together than a flight company, they are the AMC (aviation maintenance company) so their daily work is established by the priorities set forth by the Production Control office, to touch on previously stated about them usually being stuck doing details and crap work, you have to realize that a D co has twice the personnel of a flight company so they are inherently going to have a bigger slice of the details that nobody wants to do, in a good battalion however, the flight company Platoon Sergeants should be farming Delta company or potential crew chiefs and in turn as. Soldier in Delta company you should b willing to do any job with enthusiasm in order to prove you are capable of performing in a flight company where supervision isn't as high due to manning and other reasons. I personally have done both and both make you a more well rounded maintainer. Above everything else just always remember every time you turn a wrench 2 pilots are entrusting their life to the maintenance you performed, it's an awesome career and the potential for jobs outside of the army afterwards are generally higher for Apache maintainers than most other aircraft types, because they do break alot and we get a lot of reps in fixing them. Whatever you choose the army is a good profession and it takes every job to make it smoothly!

It’s a great job and provides for plenty of job opportunities outside the military once you get out.
