I'm trying to understand the tattoo policy before I get another tattoo on my forearm. What's allowed for sizes etc?

Go to army times.com. There is an update to the policy. The site has an article on the changes.

That was what I was confused about. The update to the policy is more lenient. I'm conservative about placements and I've never had problems finding jobs because of it. I have one tat that is visible in a short sleeve shirt currently and I've been a usps employee for 2 years. I'm army reserves currently but thinking about going active once this contract is over. I prefer to stay on the conservative side in case policies change again even though I know I'd be grandfathered then.

No, you really do not... many changes made over the years that have not included policy verbiage grandfathering in past allowed behavior. Or at best, the grandfathering may be, they wont immediately separate you, but you can not reenlist, extend, be romoted....ect...
We all would like to think a next tattoo policy would be "fair" but fairness is in the eye of the policy maker, not those it regulates.

Regardless of the policy, my advice is to be conservative with the placement. You’ve probably heard it a ga-zillion times but you cannot imagine how many people have regrets when looking for a job or who are rejected for employment because of ink. I have ink and intend to get more but I’ll keep it respectful and or covered.

Well I been out since 2010 and I had tats before I got out and got tats while deployed in IRAQ but I recently just got back in the service with a full left sleeve. As long as the tats aren’t offensive and degrading you can have them in your arm and suppose to be “2 inches above the wrist or two fingers” I can’t remember but you good!

That’s a story and someone else just posted a pic on here yesterday another PFC asking was his tat in regulation and he going one below the elbow and big. Who ever said you had to be grandfather in is a lie cause I just got back into the military with a sleeeve and I didn’t have it when I got Out the service the 1st time!

From what I’ve been told SMA Dan Dailey redacted the previous policy of sizes and locations, you can have tattoos as long as they are not vulgar, racist, offensive and so on and not above the neck and below the wrist. Or otherwise can not be visible in the Army dress uniform. Size is not an issue according to the new policy. This is just from my experience, I met SMA Dailey in early 2016 and actually had a short discussion with him about his plans for the tattoo policy and this is what came out of it. I would say to research the policy though as changes are always being made.

SGT Jamison, yes that's what I originally could not find when I searched the policy online. Kept coming up with the old policy. And I'm not one to trust reading about new policies through, say Army Times, and whatnot. Wouldn't be a good excuse if I got a tattoo that wasn't in regs just because a Google search came up with some misleading info. I'd rather be overly informed, you know? But I have done some more research and asked NCO's in my unit who have tattoos more about it. No one in my direct chain of command has any tattoos that are even visible in summer PT's.

Pic taken 12th April 2018 and I just got back in February so. As long as it’s not offensive
