I think it would be naive to think otherwise. Any system, concieved and administered by humans, will be subject to human failings.

No one can be completely objective, and you hit it on the head.  Any system like this is prone to nepotism; it never helped that boards used Army Study Guide.com for their MOI either.

<p>Not a big fan of the board system. Really, they do a great job of evaluating who you just spent weeks studying to pretend to be, not who you actually are.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I've always felt boards should be held randomly, and at the last second, with no notice. You should be evaluated for what you bring to the table every day, not for who you can pretend to be for a few hours..</p>

Interesting concept, I agree there definitely needs to be changes though.

I do think sometimes there is a little of the "good ole boy system." The only problem with that is that it sets the Soldier up for failure in the future. I have seen 20 month SGTs that I had plenty of confidence in. I have seen 12 year SSG that cannot and should not have made that rank. That may have been due to poor leaders being buddy buddy and sending them to the board. So to answer the question I do think there are some that get promoted like that.
