If it still exists, Why don’t you ask your Recruiter if (and how) you can apply for the “Hometown Recruiter Program”? If selected you could return home after Basic and AIT and work out of a nearby Recruiting office going to high schools, colleges, and other recruiting events. That would give you a good idea how the job is.

SPC (Join to see)
That’s the thing. Where I’m joining from the recruiting office is completely different place from my hometown, where I’ll be going back as a reserve after training...so idk is that gonna be different?

I am shocked that you want to be one. They usually have vacancies. Be careful

Don't do it! They'll put you at least 4 hours at a minimum from wherever you are from.
Additionally you aren't allowed to be friends with anyone that is associated in anyway with anyone that may even be slightly interested in joining any branch.
You pretty much get lined up and fucked as an office if not enough people join, and some of the other recruiters will lay around the office and write walk ins, pretty much pretend like they went and found them, while you're out talking to people getting nobody to join.
The politics within a recruiting command is ridiculous too. They will fail you in every way imaginable. PCS? You won't get reimbursed for a very long time.
BAH- homie they will jack up your pay and the guy you talk to about it is about 4-5 hours away and never picks up the phone.
Qual Boards- will make you drive 4-5 hours to get qualified for the job that they already have you doing.
No work phone, no work computer, and no business cards for the first 2 months, even though they've been expecting you for over a year.
Civilians don't believe a word you say
Most civilians can't pass a drug test
Most civilians can't pass the ASVAB Test
Most civilians have medical issues that would result in them not being able to join if they are honest about them.
If you don't make your goal for the month you can expect to be at work everyday from 0800 till 2030. Monday-Saturday and possibly Sunday too.
Saw a guy get transferred out because a Future Sailor's mom sent a nude.
The Chain of Command is literally looking for a way to fuck you and make an example out of you even if you didn't do anything wrong, even if you didn't do what you were accused of.
You'll be working for a bunch of people that couldn't handle the regular military so they went career recruiter, and the regular members on recruiting duty pretty much are getting ran like a Gestapo so that the upper chain doesnt get their MOS swapped back to what they were before and sent back to what they used to do. Additionally they say they put the most people in when they were regular recruiters but they worked in high populated areas with people bound and determined to get in and change their life. They aren't special, they just happened to be in the right place at the right time. They have no idea what it's like to recruit in a low population density where most people aren't qualified to join, or don't want to. They get put in charge of making sure those areas make goal, and threaten the fuck out of them to make it happen, and the accuse you of not doing your job, even when you spend 12 hours a day doing your job diligently.
Other branches recruiters bash your branch to try and persuade them to join their branch, making them not want to join any branch at all.
I highly recommend that you don't volunteer to go recruiting and that you only go if you're being voluntold to go.
