Deployment thing
I picked it up before my first deployment in our holding area (4 hours before getting on the airplane). It stayed with me on every patrol for two turns in OIF.

I'm not Catholic, and usually not superstitious. For this though, I'll make an exception.

My daughter made me a colorful bracelet out of beads that said "DADDY" on it. Knowing I would miss her terribly, I promised I would wear it all the time - which I did. I had to stash it in the little APFU pocket to avoid AR 670-1 violations, but I would send her pictures of me wearing it all over Africa. She loved it.
Now I have lots of "Daddy" bracelets, but the first one she made is still my favorite.

I carried a medicine bag with certain things in it and some trinkets from my wife and daughter I also carried and wore a red white and blue teddy bear the kids always tried to steal.
