Get a job at a car rental company - if you're out of service
OR contact Goodwill as they get donated cars.
When my wife had cancer and I needed an at-home hospital bed Goodwill gave me one ($2500 price tag). I just had to give it back for the next person in need.

Have you tried to lease a vehicle? When I came back to the states for BNCOC I did monthly leases until it was time to head back to Germany. If you're trying to buy one for $500 all you can really expect to buy is a junker that has a good a chance of breaking down.

SFC Ralph E Kelley - I understand, but I was trying to give him another option. An old junker car that breaks down on him won't do him any good if he still can't get to his appointments.

I realized that. I remember getting out of the service for 15 in the aearly 70s and having a total of $40 dollars and change. I bought a cheap motorcycle. Good mileage and 'get-around' transport though wet when it rained.
