Potential for identity theft; pretty concerned about it.

Doesn't seem right, giving this site a SSN, along with your active service date and birth date, so they can verify our military affiliation. I'll pass.

Armed with that information, they could "Identity Theft" the hell out of you.

I love the site design and features, but this verification process is not 'ok'.

LOL, my credit is so jacked up right now, having it stolen would actually be an improvement.

Credit may be jacked up, but identify theft is a whole other ball game. Just be cautious, I guess that is my point to this post.

There's other verification methods. I got my friend from my one ship to confirm I was a vet. Some other sites let everyone in and the result is a huge amount of spam, tends to turn people off.

Good point. I'm just security conscious, as we all should be. Disclosing our SSN to anyone, or our security clearances (in profile) seems risky and flies in the face of things we have learned NOT to do.
Thank you for your reply, Sir.

I emailed a picture of the front of my VA card for verification - showing nothing more than my face and name. I emailed ahead to find out if that was acceptable, as I am not about to send out my personal information, either. The email I received back said that was a perfectly acceptable format, and so I did, and my account was 'verified'. As well, if one of your former battle buddies is already on and verified, he or she can 'endorse' your credibility.

THIS is excellent. Thank you, I will do that method and block out the private stuff. Thank you!
