I always looked forward to getting in some quality pugil stick training in, along with our swim qualifications, the rifle range, land nav courses and the occasional night drive.

What were or are some of your favorites?

Land Nav was my favorite. I had been a competitive navigator from an early age (15) and excelled at it. I also enjoyed weapons training. As an Infantry OCS candidate, I got to fire just about everything. And then there was demolitions training. My partner was deathly afraid of it and I got to do everything, his part as well as mine.

CPT Jack Durish I still enjoy land nav! Its a great way to get out and see new areas that most have not seen. Plus it can be a great way to get some much needed exercise.

Land navigation was one of my best too, also calling in Indirect Fire for 81mm was very related with navigation.

I enjoyed the bull in the ring and all the ground fighting. Also I found that a well ran circuit course was more beneficial that a 3-4 mile run.

I loved the O-course in boot, not so fond in the fleet for some reason.

Love getting in some range time. Never fired a weapon before the Marine Corps, so discovering I was good at it made me look forward to it. Loved the ground fighting and bull in the ring. Most fight training always pairs you up with someone of an equal level. But ground fighting was always mismatched pairs of differing experience. Like a real fight, you're not always going to be fighting someone of the same skill. So it was awesome getting in the ring with opponents outside my experience level and trying to overcome them.
