Military College Grads: What do you wish you knew now that would've helped you be a better military student/learner?

I first starting taking courses as a junior enlisted Sailor onboard the USS Truman (CVN 75). I would enroll for courses, and sometimes drop them or not finish them thinking I can always justify dropping courses with "serving my country".

Keep in mind, when it comes time to transfer to a 4 year college (or grad school), all those courses that weren't taken with due diligence can come back to haunt you. I'm not saying I didn't take school seriously back then, but even the most rookie mentor could've told me that any and every course taken (or failed or not completed) has the potential to hurt your chances when it comes time to apply for an advanced degree.

It doesn't matter how young (or old) you are, if you're serving and new to college, find a mentor (it's a sign of maturity).

I wish I knew to throttle back on my civilian grad courses while taking military PME. 3 classes were too much to take on during full-time PME at Maxwell AFB. Looking back, I survived, but should've paced myself better.
