How does one get the Combat Infantry Badge and the Combat Action Badge (I know you can only get one but I'm looking for answers for both)?

Short answer- CIB- Combat Infantry Badge- awarded for serving in a designated combat area doing combat operations in a 11 series MOS. CAB- Combat Action Badge- awarded to other MOS's (FA, EN, AR) for doing the same thing.

Might want to add this part. c) Soldier must be personally present and actively engaging or being engaged by the enemy, and performing satisfactorily in accordance with the prescribed rules of engagement.

In addition to the 11 series MOS, 18 series also are eligible after satisfactory performance during a direct fire engagement (although SF is pretty judicious awarding them).

You can earn both by virtue of reclassification from Infantry to any other mos, or vise versa . But you can only wear one....
