As a prior-service Reservist who is going active, how much choice do I have in where I go as an E4?

Not much. You can certainly fill out a Dream Sheet, but the Army will more than likely send you where they need you. Unless you can wrangle it into your contract you have guaranteed choice of assignment.

Yes, or as We used to say about the dream sheets, if You think Your going to get the assignment You want, Your dreaming.

I did the same thing. I was given choice of a duty station (IAW the needs of the Army) or a new MOS, no choice of duty station.

I’m confused. You said you were giving a choice within army needs but then said you were given no choice. Sorry everything’s really confusing to me right now. Going from reserves to being out two years then to active has thrown a lot of curves at me.

None unless you're reenlisting and negotiating with your branch and retention NCO. Not even the company grade officers can pick their assignment unless it's a compassionate reassignment. Put in your wishlist and hope for the best. You can volunteer for a hardship deployment and ask for the assignment you want when you return. That has worked for many service members.
