When I PCS to FT Carson, I will be able to request 10 days of PTDY and 4 days of travel are given to me. This is my first PCS and I am not sure how much leave is really necessary to take. More than likely they will be going on summer leave about a month after my arrival. How much leave do you guys usually take for PCS leave?
P.S. Does the Army still give out DLA or did they already switch to GTC cards?
Thanks

How much leave you need is on you. A lot depends on you situation - are you travelling with family? Do you need to find a house? School for the kids? Etc?
Now, you THINK you're getting summer block leave - which may or may not be true. I wouldn't count that egg quite yet.
The Army does still do dislocation allowance. AND they've switched to GTC cards for travel expenses.

I took only that necessary to get me there. If you are comming off from a stressful tour, or your Family needs recharging or time with you, then you may need leave. Remember this, the longer you stay away the harder it is to get into the groove. Thank you for your service!

I personally took 30 days to get out of my losing unit faster and to get myself and family settled at Carson. But as previously stated, you take as much as you want. They still do DLA and GTC. I received DLA but did not use a GTC.

I just left Carson and they are enforcing the GTC now, they would not offer any advances.

That’s interesting. I know when I left Bragg they were making a push to utilize the GTC but no one said anything to me about it. My next move will be an ETS move soooo I’m still not concerned-personally of course.
