You don’t protect my freedom: Our childish insistence on calling soldiers heroes deadens real democracy

I started to read the article, but didn't get very far (the first sentence) before my 'another BS rant' detector went off. When the article opens up with "Put a man in uniform, preferably a white man, give him a gun, and Americans will worship him" I knew the article was going to be nothing but a diatribe filled with hyperbole.

I forced myself to stomach the entire article an saw (surprisingly) that there were a few points I agreed with, but he uses these points only as reactionary comments to the misinformed (at best) comment about the military. For instance, "It is undeniable that there are ... military who valiantly sacrifice themselves for the sake of others. Reviewing the research proving cruelty and mendacity ... trauma and tragedy caused by officers and soldiers .. many of them are not heroes".

His own version of "Meaning no disrespect, but ...." followed by the most offensive comments and holding out someone like Manning as a poor persecuted whistle-blower is revisionist tripe typical of his anarchists supporters.

Along the lines of what MAJ (Join to see) stated, about the only thing I can really agree on in the article is his third to last paragraph, "A social worker who commits to the care and advocacy of adults with developmental disabilities – helping them find employment, group home placement and medical care, and just treating them with love and kindness – is a hero. A hospice worker in a poor neighborhood, providing precious comfort and consolation to someone dying on the ugly edges of American healthcare, is a hero. An inner-city teacher, working hard to give essential education and meaningful affirmation to children living in neighborhoods where bullets fly and families fall apart, is a hero."

If the rant were more about the fact that there are a lot of unrecognized heroes out there, I would be in complete agreement. This comes across as another "in order to build someone up, I have to tear you down" type of article.

MAJ (Join to see). I actually read this article and way too much of his other intellectually dishonest and completely vacuous self hating drivel vomited into our literature over so many years. Frankly, if he really hates our culture so much . . . he should go somewhere better . . . but most of the places his communist inspired ilk idolize would put a round through his brain.
