A good friend and I have a long term goal of setting up a ranch where soldiers can go after returning from war to readjust to civilian life. We have plans to build small barrack and classrooms where the returning soldiers can live and learn to readjust to civilian life. It would be a work for board and food kind of thing. I don't want to post a massive list of all the things we are planning but Ill try to hit on some of the bigger more exciting things..

We are hoping to hold several classes to cover all areas of reintegration. A few examples would be... A class on college preparation that would be a lot more in depth than the ones everyone goes through coming out of the army. We would cover how to better choose a career that would suit your passions. How to prepare for, not just college as a whole but, the social aspects of it.
Another good class we wanted to start was on how to readjust to the civilian working environment. I have many fellow soldiers, myself included, who have had a very hard time connecting and working along side civilians outside of the army. Most of them go through three or more jobs within the first year. So I think this is a very important topic to cover.

These are all the ideas we have and I would love to just talk forever but I don't have the time lol... Basically I wanted some advice and suggestions from the rally point community so I can better prepare myself for this. What other programs do you think are essential in something like this? What do I need to do legally to open up this ranch? Where could I could to promote and fund the program? While funding isn't a huge issue of mine because there would be a capacity limit to the program and the soldiers would be working for board. My friend and partner is also very well off financially.. Finances are always an issue regardless. Life throws you curve balls.. It would be nice to have some kind of financial if we ever needed it.

Again all of your input is very important and is much appreciated.

The Small business adminstration would be able to provide sba couseling.
Start on your non profit tax id
Put a business plan together
There are several states thst offer free land so as long you provide that state with tax revenues
Get a good lawyer who will give good advice and not charge a arm and leg
You have an excellent idea that could generate some federal funding if your plan is right. I wish you the best of luck.
