I guess I’m speaking more from a Science Fiction standpoint here since this concept won’t be even feasible for another 40 or 50 years but hear me out.

TV shows like Continuum and video games like the new COD-AW feature a future society with privatized world security and the trials of such a situation.

Would this concept work someday why or why not?

SSG(P) (Join to see), I see it as problematic because national interests almost demand that we maintain a national military to support and defend our country and our interests.

If we try to project into the future and see some sort of world society, where everyone is part of one huge empire, then I could see private militaries and law enforcement organizations as a possibility. The problem is that I don't see that science fiction world organization coming to be for a very looooong time, if ever.

SSG(P) (Join to see) there is actually a ton of writing on this topic, from Machiavelli's the Art of War to the fictitious The Profession by Steven Pressfield.
There's also a few RP threads on the topic worth reading.
