This may be a common sense question, but I've been reading through FM 7-22 and I can't get a definitive answer. When you conduct MMD 1 or 2, you do so in the extended rectangular formation, covered. But should soldiers stay on line for the duration of each exercise, or are they executed at your own pace?

Haven’t marched in twenty years... That said, use your NCO leadership Soldier that’s what why it’s there! If you do not get the answer you are looking, move up the NCO chain until you do. At some point, a Sr. NCO will know the answer you seek - guarantee it!

When I attended the Master Fitness Trainer Course in 2014, our instructors informed us that although it was not explicitly stated in the manual, all personnel conducting MMD 1-2 were to stay on line throughout execution.

I'm not sure if the FM covers uniformity, but it could be helpful both ways. If you do it at your own pace soldiers could get more out of the exercise physically, but staying on line could instill the discipline that certain battle drills require such as staying on line when assaulting through an objective.

Indeed. I know it explicitly states that the shuttle sprint is to be done at the rank leader's pace until the final 25m sprint. I certainly agree with uniformity as training for disciplined battle drill, and always assumed that to be the standard.
