Yes, but you will get demoted all the way to PVT (E-1) unless you have had college or Army School, in that case you will be promoted to PFC (E-2). So I generally don't recommend switching to the Marines from any branch as you will be going backwards in your military career. If you have been a PFC for 4 years active or 6 years reserve, that means you must done something wrong or lacking in PT, which will greatly decrease your chances of getting into the Marines. Good luck though!

That's an urban legend. Each person will have a rank determination individually done based off of preset criteria. There's no blanket demotions.

That's not true, in the years of being stationed at boot camp, there has never been someone higher than an E-2. It is definitely not an urban legend. Once boot camp is completed, they will probably get promoted to E-3 due to time in grade from prior service, and E-4 is earned. Make no mistake, E-2 is highest anyone can go through boot camp. I think the reason for this is that they are not technically Marines until they can complete boot camp. If they can't, they get chaptered out.

Talk to a recruiter, they can tell you whether or not you are qualified to join the USMC. As CWO3 McIntosh stated, sooner rather than later. And yes, Parris Island or San Diego for all.

I do want to comment on some previous posts, you will go to boot camp as a Pvt, but many graduate as a PFC or LCPL if honor grad.

Once your service contract is fulfilled and you have to be released by the Army provided your DD214 allows you to continue Military Service you go to a Marine Recruiter and ask if they will allow prior service.
