Why is there such a big difference between the Army National Guard and the Active force? What is the National Guard missing? We know it's only "part time" but the communication in between drills are close enough to not forget there is a mission and there are requirements/obligations that need to be met.

Recognize that not all AD and not all NG units are the same. There are AD units that make the worst of the Nasty Guard seem like boyscouts by comparison.
It is an ode to the culture and the leadership of the unit that defines the professionalism of a unit.

SFC (Join to see), I think you hit the nail on the head: the active duty force does "it" day in and day out, while the National Guard does it part-time. At least that's how I see the difference. And it seems to be a major difference (or was, when I was on active duty).
