My shins have been hurting when I run long distance or doing sprints, so I was thinking of buying a pair of compression sleeves (https://www.amazon.com/Calf-Compression-Sleeves-Pair-Volt/dp/B01F33JNL0/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_200_bs_lp_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=QS7P3GPT8VS297V629BT&th=1&psc=1 Off amazon). I was wondering if I can bring these to my basic training, and if not I don't have to waste money on it.
Thanks!

Different reasons for shin splints, but the genesis for much of it is tight calf muscles. Every year, at the beginning of summer XC training, I’ll get one or two runners that develop shin splints. Stretching their calf muscles regularly has really helped. You’d also want to run on a softer surface (grass, dirt, etc) until it resolves. You can also ice them, and take an antinflammatory. Oh—and at present, you should take a few days off from your running. It’s not really something you can ‘run through’. And—keep stretching your calf muscles. Every day.

My experience is that shin splints are almost always connected to shoes. Mine were pretty bad until a friend recommended that I go to a running shop and have them recommend shoes. I over-pronate, but once I got shoes that were designed to help correct that problem, my shin splints went away and I could run distances no problem.

@ MAJ Bigger. Individual is going to BUT and won't be able to take time off from running or run on soft surface. DI's would eat this poor Joe alive at that point :-(

@SPC Heather Richardson — He can do what he wants, I suppose. Either he has time to resolve the issue, or he doesn’t. If he does, he should. I’ve been a competitive runner for literally 50 years, and have been a personal and team coach for about 15. If he doesn’t remediate it, he’ll crash on the runs at Basic—and end up on profile. Of course, DI’s won’t bother him about that :)
If he doesn’t have much time, rest will do him more good at this point.

You can bring them, but without a proper note from a military doctor prescribing their use, you will find them locked in storage for the duration of the cycle.
If authorized, they will need to be black in color.
