PFC Clark, hopefully you have other records to substantiate the service such as the purple heart? If you are trying to get the purple heart that can be difficult without medical records and witnesses. Same for heroism, you need several witnesses and statements. Korea itself has several awards to recognize American veterans who actually fought in Korea during the war there. They also sponsor trips to Korea. What medal are you seeking? When you answer the Qs we can move forward. A Congressman can definitely help. I've seen cases where a letter to the Chief of Staff or Service Secretary got things moving. Valid cases do get approved if supported by facts.

PFC Clark--doe he have the other Korea Service Medals/UN Medals, etc? If you have the DD214 and/or the Purple Heart data, you may be able to write and get replacement medals for you as next of kin...

yes i have his DD-214, I can get any letters from VFW, DAV, Amercian Legion, and Am Vets. He has held a National Position with VFW in the past, and is a Founding Member of a VFW Post in Columbus, Ohio. He has on record 5 medals right now. But hearing his stories of his actions i feel he has earned at least a Silver Star or a Bronze Star. his Heroism deserves Meritorious action on his part. I will be sending a copy of this letter to Washington DC. and to my Congressman.

PFC Clark, terrific. Trouble with heroism is usually a "lost" nomination is worked and someone who nominated pushes it. Otherwise, it takes 2-3 first hand witnesses to say they saw it or one was submitted and lost. Just let me know if I can help.

I have all my fathers records he kept over the decades at the VSO. When he passed away they gave me everything he had. I am sitting down with my local VSO this month to go over his records, and to see what they can help with.

Wow, what an incredible story. Your father sounds as if he has earned at least one Purple Heart, if not more, and awards for heroism. Your perceptions about the Chinese being ruthless are spot on. They murdered civilians and prisoners all the time. I wish you the best in getting your father recognized for his heroism.
