At Edge4Vets, they urge veterans to do what businesses say they need to do to succeed; that is, learn how to translate their leadership strengths from the military into tools for civilian success. Check the article and their primers to do such. Hope it helps those making the transition!

Best of luck to those of you going through the reduction in force.

Excellent article, CPT (Join to see)! You don't even have to take an AMA seminar to benefit (from the article). That's some great advice about translating military-isms into traits and skills the civilian world is interested in. I hope people will click on that link and read the short article, because it contains some outstanding guidance on making the transition.

I especially liked this:

"We work with four key intangible skills ... the same resiliency skills many veterans possess. They include Adaptability, the ability to change with circumstances; Engagement, the ability to connect with others and form relationships; Optimism, the ability to remain positive under pressure; and Proaction, the ability to spot a problem and take steps to overcome it."

I'd say any good Soldier (Sailor, Airman, Marine) possesses those four intangible skills.
