So I have notice over the last 18 months that a large group of my peers give Soldiers a event oriented counseling for issue but there is no real plan of action. It's just will recommend for UCJM if your conduct continues. I feel that a lot of leaders feel that is the only tool left. Don't get me wrong I fully agree that smoking soldiers within reason works. But I have found corrective that requires taking there time works even better. It also makes them learn from their actions your thoughts?

My counseling always have a plan of action because that is what is required. You must also go back and complete the counseling after the plan of action has been carried out. If you as a leader are not doing this you are wrong and when it comes time for ucmj it will get kicked out Because you did not follow directions.

I agree - going from nothing to UCMJ/NJP is not developing your people. Counseling, creating a plan with the soldier/sailor/Marine/airman to correct deficiencies in the conduct is what we're supposed to be doing, IMO. This is especially true of deficiencies that could lead to NJP or other UCMJ actions.
