Does the ISAF NATO Medal have any authorized devices for multiple deployments to Afghanistan? If so please provide a reference.

1SG is correct. First off, if you have the appurtenance on there that says "ISAF" that's wrong. Ten deployments to Afghanistan would only earn you the ribbon. If we say, deploy to Africa with NATO you would still only be able to wear the same ribbon, but with a bronze star.

All the info you need is on the awards branch website:

I earned the NATO medal for Kosovo and then FYRoM, then Afghanistan. I wear the first medal awarded plus a Bronze Star device for additional campaigns.

Here is a curve ball question. Since I got the ISAF NATO medal and now they are giving out one that says Afghanistan for Resolute Support, does that now rate a bronze star?

No only if you deployed to another NATO campaign example I deployed to Kosovo and then to Afghanistan so I'm authorized to wear the NATO medal for Kosovo and a campaign star for Afghanistan.

SSG Cody, reference AR 600-8-22 para 9-11e which states "Subsequent awards. Subsequent awards (if approved by the Secretary of Defense) for service in a different NATO operation, U.S. military personnel will affix a bronze service star to the NATO Medal suspension ribbon and service ribbon."

Additionally please reference AR 670-1 para 29-6g for further guidance on the wear of foreign military decorations.

An LT asked me to help him with his ribbon rack prior to taking a DA Photo. Originally, with less years in service than I, he had managed to have TWO National Defense Service Medals and 2 NATO Medals reflected on his ribbon rack as well as his ERB.

I discussed with him the criteria for the NDSM (recommending to go to S1 to get that fixed) and pointed out where to find the guidance on the NATO ribbons.

As 1SG Rink said, only 1 NATO ribbon (typically the first one but must be a Non-Article 5) can be on the rack, other subsequent NATO missions an SM takes part in gets a bronze star on the first ribbon.

No, there are no authorized devices for subsequent awards given for operations in Afghanistan. however, a star is authorized if awarded subsequent awards from other designated ISAF operations. For instance I have 1 NTM-I and 2 ISAF non-article 5 awards, so I am authorized 1 star.

AR 600-8-22, para. 9–11: NATO Medal

So since OEF has ended, Operation Freedom’s Sentinal/Resolute Support would rate a star?
