SFC Stephen King I like it. Functional tests of strength. Not just simple hinge exercises paired w/ a run.

SFC Stephen King - I hope all the branches go to similar tests. They need to actually score on useful performance of physical ability. A pushup or situp cannot gauge how well you are going to be able to ruck or carry a downed comrade.

SSgt (Join to see) - I agree. Endurance is great. However, downrange Strength is essential to the mission. Strength training is key to success.

SFC Stephen King - exactly. Keep the 'short' run. That's fine. We need the lung strength and endurance. But we need to increase the physical ability. We need to strengthen the core of our soldiers/sailors/airmen/marines. The 4 basic exercises of weight training: Squats, Deadlifts, Bench Press, Shoulder/Military Press. Those are the big groups our jobs focus on.

For reference for those who have yet to see anything about it (I hadn't until I saw this post and said "Wth is ARCT?")
They're still testing it and they don't even have figured out how to score it for a standard pass/fail. Look how long they've been doing all this. Literally decades they've spent trying to fix the APFT and find a combat test the last decade.

The Army is testing a new combat fitness test
The new six-event test can better measure a soldier’s readiness, and it could be mandatory as soon as next summer.
