Have you been to either place at school at White Hall or other facilities. My question relates to toxic landfills or spills.
The reason I ask is that Chanute AFB was closed in 1993 and me and my two friends were at both bases. Floyd died of ALS in 2013, a former Air Force Weather Forecaster and NCOIC (SMSgt) at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. Floyd was 60. My other friend (also a Meteorologist) is dying with Leukemia, after 4 heart attacks. Please pray for him. He wants his name undisclosed. I talk to him daily.
White Hall had a lot of Asbestos and is falling into disrepair after 21 years of deterioration. Myself I am having daily petit mal seizures and the my left cannot any longer lift much over 5-10lbs.
So, if you have any concerns with serious illnesses that may or not be related to any base in the world, feel free to discuss.

I have a move that I am coalescing together that includes various civilian and military people that will get the word out. The back side of this is to help veterans who issues with health and homelessness. I am arranging to find homes and jobs in North Carolina near Raleigh and Greensboro.
This is not an effort to scare anyone or advocate any one or base but to learn what you know about bases you have been at and to help me help more people in our military families.

SPC David S. - I thank you, we all three were at Chanute and we've lost a few people now and my friend will appreciate it. He goes to the doctor tomorrow.

All of these sites need to be cleaned up and the asbestos removed. Makes no sense with all these advancements in building materials that we still have facilities with asbestos or other dangerous elements. While it's understandable the materials were used back then, any service-member who got ill needs to be taken care of immediately.

SSgt Olson--since I work for EPA and also served at the PAO with oversight of Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS)--I feel your pain. I'm not an MD or Scientist, so they is a lay opinion from having read a great many peer-reviewed papers on the subject. The science it not all in nor performed in every base instance. From Computational Toxicology, we know that certain chemicals are indeed toxic, such as certain solvents and degreasing agents or pesticides such as DDT that were commonly used by the military. We also know that grilling a steak and charring meat may have carcinogenic effects. Thus, there may be many genetic and environmental factors at work that we do not yet understand. It may turn out that gene expression may be limited/damaged by such enviro stressors in combination-just as a "weak immune" system may be susceptible to bacteria or a virus. The potential combination of exposures is very very vast. Usually, when gov has reliable scientific data, such as is the case with asbestos, people get the benefit of doubt application. At Ft McClellan, my son along with others seemed to be in a Cancer cluster. It was not clear if that was due to similar situations you describe--or even the Monsanto plant down the road.
