That is a tricky question! What type of business? Who are you trying to reach? Where do your customers get information about your service or product?
I have a blogging site for veterans starting or growing a business at http://www.vetlaunched.com. I suppose I spend more time blogging than my plumber. But that is where my tribe is...online.
I think a key would be to schedule your time (blogging or otherwise) to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck/time. Because blogging CAN be work if it is a means to and end to your business.

I type fast, but prefer to add plenty of links and resources to my posts to show the reader where I got my information. That prevents someone from accusing me of bending the truth about studies. It also adds another 30 minutes to my effort when I get sidetracked by new information during my search.
