When I left AD ARMY in Sep 16, in order to make E-5/E-6 you had to got in front of your BN Board. Now I'm in the reserves, I've been told that that all promotions Army Wide is now all paper work and no physical appearance. Is this true?

FYI I'm doing my own research.

No! ....... and any active duty Soldier is welcome to come to the reserves if they think it is easier to get promoted. You can enjoy full time responsibility for part time wages.

Fulltime? I weekend a month and 30 days AT doesn't sound like fulltime....and yes sometimes activated but then paid the same as AD.

SSG James Swarr - If you are in a leadership or staff role in most units, you will have things you end up having to do without pay if you want to do your job. Most of the reports and mandatory things that you would do on active duty still have to be done in the Reserves and while there are full time support personnel, they can't do everything. I was an AGR and I could count on seeing commanders and key staff people showing up many times between drill periods to get things done. LTC Edward Chesser is right on the money. If the higher headquarters commander calls no commander is going to say that he/she has to wait until drill weekend to talk.

So the main take away is the last sentence applies to very few in the reserves

Depends on the unit, really. I know many a BN that do just paper, but I also know many a BN that do in person boards.

That is a negative. Promotion Boards on Active Duty are still in person. (I went to a board for E-6 last week)
