I have never had pierced ears before, but am interested in getting them pierced. I'm in the National Guard. I've been to basic, but not AIT, I vaguely remember being told something like I can't have piercing holes when I go to training. So does this mean I'll have to wait till after to get my ears pierced? If someone could give me information on wearing earrings outside of uniform I'd appreciateit

AR 670-1
(4) When male and female Soldiers are not in uniform and off duty, earring wear is not restricted as long as the ear-rings do not create or support ear gauging (enlarged holes in the lobe of the ear, greater than 1.6mm).

Having said that, check your Blue Book and/or local command policies.

This is a new change and has not worked into local policies. It will be interesting to see if it stays or if it very by location or if commands do care about ear rings.

SSG (Join to see) - it's not a new change, really. The old 670-1 allowed males to wear earrings out of uniform and off duty as well....

SFC Michael Hasbun - It is a new change for males to wear earrings on post the old way males had to be off post to wear earrings..

Well that definitely wouldn't fly in the Marine Corps because in the Marine Corps male Marines don't wear earrings. How the National Guard is, I don't know, but remember, you represent your branch 24/7, not just when you punch the clock.

I know in the 90's it was against the regs to wear ear rings while off duty in the Corps. Also had to stay clean shaven even on leave and wear a belt even in civies. No holes in pants.

I was stationed at Camp Pendleton from 74 till 77 and I never saw any one with ear rings, and yes if we where caught off base not looking respectable it was reported. and I was a 3516 where the rules where always stretched.

Yeah. You are living in a dream world. You probably even know someone that wears earrings off-duty. I knew people that did.

Dude don't do it, just because you can doesn't mean you should...no idea what the standards for the guard are, but you're not helping the jokes if you get your ears pierced and you're still a boot...
