Are there any companies out there that sponsor Security Clearances?

I want to get into an area of IT that would require one, however mine has expired since leaving the military. I'm wondering if it'd be easier just joining one of the branches as a civilian or going another route.

My youngest sister is being processed for one right now at NASA/JPL/CALTECH -- so it is a real thing, just depends on how badly they want you. I recall from the 1980's that a lot of engineers at Lockheed in Sunnyvale spent time in separate facility essentially doing nothing until their clearances were approved. Nowadays it seems like a lot of companies don't want to bother, hell many of them don't even want to offer in-house training.

Government contractors that do classified work will sponsor you for a clearance if the job requires it. If the company's work requires employees with security clearance, then the company has a Security Official and Office (minor deviation to this is some subcontractor relationships). If you are hired, the Security Office will help you with the security clearance paperwork (similar to what you completed in the military). Because you had a previous clearance, it shouldn't take too long (weeks not months) for your clearance to be reinstated. In the meantime, the company may require you to delay on-boarding or bring you in and assign you work that doesn't require a clearance. I worked for a private sector government contractor and we routinely hired veterans with previous clearances for classified work and sponsored them in getting their clearance reinstated.

Mostly Defense Contractors. If anyone will help you renew your clearance, they will be found here.
