DoD SkillBridge allows eligible transitioning Service members to participate in civilian training, apprenticeship, and internship programs, beginning up to six months before their service obligation is complete. It is growing fast, in 2015 the training programs were available to active-duty Service members at 7 installations and today, there looks to be about 28 installations with training programs offered. Most who successfully completed the training received job offers. The training allows Service members to participate in training instead of performing military duties during their final 6 months of active duty.

I've heard this is an excellent opportunity and offers transitioning service members a greater overall probability of getting hired. It also gives the employer a way to see what roles a veteran might be a good fit for. From an employer's perspective, have you seen it lead to successful hires? Also, is it difficult to get this program implemented on the corporate end?

I read really good things about it as well, but have not had a chance to experience it first hand. I had started to look into this at my last organization and it was just getting started at that time and I believe it was only open to Service members in the Army, but now I see it is open to Marines and Navy and these training programs are in 28 installations currently. From my initial experience, it was a bit more difficult to implement since there are a lot of regulations (training has to be offered within a small radius of the installation, training programs had to be structured and authorized by the DoD, etc). However, for those that put the time into these, there appear to be significant Service members obtaining job offers as soon as they transition and ready to go since they spent 6 months being trained. I was definitely interested to get any Service members' perspective if they went through it to see the experience from their side.
