My 7 year old son is in Boy Scouts this year for the first time and is very excited to "shoot some bows and arrows". My wife and I are considering getting him a bow as a gift for Christmas. Can anyone recommend one?

I would go with the basic bow that he started with at scouts. They are generally inexpensive, durable and safe and built for youth. Scouts can't shoot compound until they are 14 (If I remember correctly). This way you don't spend a lot of money if he doesn't take to it.

Believe it or not with all our range running experience, we military folks still have to get BSA range master certified to run BB and Archery ranges and be NRA qualified for Boy Scout rifle & shotgun ranges. I've been doing it for the past few years and its great fun.

@SFC Jason Kendrick this might be a good kit to start out with. You'll need to find out a few details like hand dominant and eye dominant. I'd go with #24
