Is there any way for a first termer to get reassigned before completing their initial contract?

I was looking to PCS to Korea within the next couple of months sir. I will officially have been in Fort Hood for a year on 23 July but was hoping to make the move to Korea as soon as possible. When I contacted branch, they told me it was impossible for me to move as a first termer, but I seriously want to make this move. I am a generator mechanic with Charlie 9 certification to work with Patriot specifically. I was told Korea was in need of soldiers badly, and I felt it would be a place where I might be able to get more chances to learn and do my job.

I can't find anything saying you can't pcs as a first term you just have to meet your minimum time on station which is 18 months then branch could move you. You can also try getting on your requisition tab in your assignment satisfaction key on ako. If they need your job and rank bad enough it'll give you the option to volunteer to go to that duty assignment. You also have to take the time remaining on your contact into account also. You may have to reinlist in order to go if you don't have enough time and at that point I would try and get it as a reinlist ment option so it's pretty much guaranteed.

I was told it was 12 months by a SGT here on Fort Hood, but I was going to try through ASK if it didn't work out from just calling branch. I have 2 and 4 months remaining on my contract so the time is there.

PFC (Join to see) - Like SGT (Join to see) said, you are going to have to meet minimum time on station. I was under the assumption that it was 24 months on station, but it might be 18. I wouldn't take the word of a SGT on Fort Hood.
I would go about PCSing few different ways:
1. Look into contacting branch. Some people say not to, but I haven't had an issue.
2. Get in touch with your career manager. There is always a possibility that there simply are no openings for Korea.
3. Go to Assignment Satisfaction Key (ASK) on AKO. Choose Korea on your preferences and check to see if there are any open requisitions.
Good luck

I appears the assignments of first-term Soldiers are restricted in number and location based on the length of your initial contract.
See Page 8, Ch 3, Para 2m, AR 614-200, Enlisted Assignments and Utilization Management. I've attached a screenshot of that section below. Paragraph 2m(1) through 2m(4) should be directly relevant to your question.

In this case, would it be possible to extend my contract prior to even reaching re-enlistment or an ETS date?

PFC (Join to see) - I'm not sure. That would be a good question for your unit Career Counselor.

Lots of ways.
Some are voluntary and may result in forfeitures of bonuses or incentives.
You can be promoted out of a unit.
You can be reassigned due to inactivation or realignment.
You can be involuntarily reassigned due to being excess.
If you are the one trying to be reassigned, bear in mind that you may be putting your incentives in jeopardy of being collected. This needs to be discussed openly so that you can make an informed decision on what is best for you.

PFC (Join to see) - This is a story I have heard far to often.
Once upon a time, I found myself in a similar situation. Having had enough of it, I decided to be the agent of change.
I started doing what I thought was best, with some like-minded individuals. Not to work around anything leadership might be doing, mind you. But harnessing all the down time to do what I wanted. Soon, it was noticed. More followers bought in, and begrudgingly in some cases, the louts and layabouts who had been the culture found themselves on the outside looking in. It was a success story, but it also made me some enemies as a go-getter made them look comparatively bad.

I have tried 1SG believe me. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining or running away from the situation. I felt perhaps things could change here at the unit. I try my best to be as much of an influence as I can. And leadership has taken notice but not in a positive light, despite me not doing anything wrong. I will continue to try however. If I could change the mindset of at least a few in the unit, I could consider that an accomplishment.

PFC (Join to see) - Don't give up. What you are going through... pretty much all of us can relate to at one point or another. But the climate won't change on it's own. It is people like you that make it happen.

I appreciate those words 1SG. I'll continue to do what I can to be as much of an influence as I can at the unit.
