PCSing to Hawaii (Weapons)

CPL Ferrer... sorry to hear that! First, I'll make the prerequisite disclaimer that I'm not a lawyer, and this is only my personal understanding, not legal advice. I would consult with the post MPs for final clarification. With that said:<div><br></div><div>- The NRA legal page (http://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-laws/hawaii.aspx) indicates that there is no state "assault rifle" law, only "assault pistols" -- so you should be fine based on the handguns you listed. Make sure your AR-15 was recorded as a rifle when originally purchased... some get recorded as a pistol, and that would make it an assault pistol in Hawaii.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>- Possession of rifle magazines over 10 rounds are OK, but not of pistol magazines. HOWEVER, AR-15 mags are considered pistol mags, since the AR could be used as a pistol (see paragraph above). I realize this is a silly law, but I'm only conveying my understanding of it, not defending it.</div><div><br></div><div>- Assuming none of your items are NFA items (i.e. your shotgun's barrel is over 18" barrel), the rest seems like it should be ok.</div><div><br></div><div>- Registration of firearms must be done within THREE days of arrival.</div><div><br></div><div>Below is another link about laws in Hawaii as well.</div><div><br></div><div>In short, it looks like as long as your AR is not considered a pistol, and you keep your standard (over 10 round) mags out of Hawaii, you should be fine assuming you register all your firearms upon arrival.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>I would confirm things with the post MPs though... and if anybody says anything which contradicts the attached links, make sure to ask them for the written policy or regulation. As someone who did bring three guns here, is now leaving and trying to undo the registration. I will tell anyone with weapons to not bring them! I followed the local laws, registered my guns and now the city of Honolulu will not unregister any weapons. I got here early enough to not be in the FBI criminal background system, RAP BACK, anyone that now comes here will pay to be registered into an FBI criminal reporting system. Yes there are other professions such as teachers registered in it, but primarily it is for tracking if criminals are arrested anywhere else afterword. They have no way to get off the FBI system or to deregister the weapons. and HHG will not ship out weapons *** unless they have papers showing the registration. If you love your guns and your civil rights, Hawaii is not for you, only two ranges on the island for the public, hard to find ammo on island, and they regulate the weapons to make it painful to buy or bring here.
