I am currently in Okinawa....I would say the most challenging thing is the language. I would say at here on the island it seems pretty retirement friendly, there seems to be a lot of Americans who have stayed here. It is extremely humid in the summer, but this time of year is just great!

Japan is nice. I was only there for about a day and a half, so I can't really speak to anything other than I had fun while I was there. South Korea is pretty awesome, though, and it has quite a large retired military community. Pretty much all of them work for AAFES, and make a good living. Good luck!

Oh hell ya!!! The food. NEVER had a bad experience. Open the menu and point to something I can't read and be surprised. Althoug the bigger towns had mock food displays in the windows. Just walk the waitress out and point to what looks good.

I went TAD to Misawa and it was pretty decent, nice and quiet, most of the noise, like Atsugi is from the aircraft flying from the base.
