If your unit received an award while you are attached, would that show up as an award on your DD214?
My unit received a VUA for Desert Storm but it was retroactively awarded after my ETS, so I'm curious - would that be on my 214 if it were awarded before I ETS'd?

SGT Richard Hanner, I had to add two awards after retirement, 1) MSM and 1) MUC. I filled out a DD 149 (Application for Correction of Military Records). A DD215, AUG 2009 was sent to me listing the awards and correcting the original DD 214.

Yes SGT Richard H. I have my VUA x2 but I had them added to my records prior to my retirement. You have to follow the instructions for getting them added post 214 issue. You will need documentation showing prof of your UIC (Unit Identification Code?) showing that you were assigned during the award issuance.

Short answer is yes.
In order to have it appear on your DD 214, you'd need both the General Order awarding it to your unit and a roster or annex that shows that you were assigned during the inclusive dates.

1SG (Join to see) I actually found the General order online. The Roster is another matter. No idea where to look for that. Wouldn't the unit assignment show up in the MPRJ?

Not necessarily. Most Unit Awards are tied to both assignment and location. The command, if they were on their game, should have published an annex once they received the award in order to update records.
I suggest contacting the unit historian and seeing if you can lay hands on it.
Too late to get a DD 215, but an honor earned is an honor kept. It shows brotherhood with current and former members who will always wear that honor thanks to the work you did in the Gulf War. Wear it proudly.

1SG (Join to see) - As a Hospital (BDE) XO with some background as an S-1 and quite frankly as an NCO, I reviewed the GO for unit awards as well as the battle roster for the deployment. Based on these two, I created an award annex to the GO and it was published prior to Demob or as soon as the returned to Home Station. As a published annex, it got added to every soldier's MPRJ and when the soldier finally discharged or retired from the Army, their final DD214 would be updated. But as you stated, the command has to be on their toes.

I got copies of morning reports (DA-1) showing assignment and transfer out that covered time period for a MUC Award and Civil Actions Award. National Archives can get them and issue 215.
