I notice how easily many of us become offended or outraged when someone posts something drastically contradicting one's beliefs or is un-cultural. Heck I took a hit of about 30 down votes in my Rallypoint career!

Have you thought of the ways to address members in less than aggressive manner?

Do you find yourself trying to 'put someone in their place', 'giving them piece of your mind' or are you genuinely interested in helping them see an issue from broader perspective?

I thought about addressing a comment that I found a little uncalled for, but then decided it wasn't worth it. The reality is, we all have a right to our own opinions. That's one of the things we defend as service members. We don't have to agree with everything others may say, but that doesn't mean we need to be spiteful about it.

I don't think I would be much of an officer, let alone much of a Soldier, if I spent all of my time trying to put people in their place. I would much rather learn from all of you on here, and I hope I can offer some sound advice or insight from time to time too.

All right - bring on the thumbs down. I can take it. :-P

Ma'am, its not about putting people in there place, trust me wanted to do it many times. It's about keeping the peace so that a senior officer and a lower enlisted and any mix in between can have a place to discuss things in a professional manner while agreeing or disagreeing amicably. Personally no matter how badly someone may insult me or overstep their bounds, I choose not to thumb down anyone out of respect for the fact that everyone has their opinion, however badly or unprofessionally they may state it. I have reported a few individuals so that RP administration can make a determination on the "professionalism" or lack there of in a post or comment.

OK MAJ Robert Petrarca, I can buy that. But to be honest, my comment about putting others in their place was just in response to the original post.

PO1 (Join to see) We get some of that here and then they just seem to disappear. But mostly pretty civil, even with those who think they know more about Climate than a Meteorologist.. Just saying!! lol

I've seen a couple posts where people straight up bash and judge other without any analysis whatsoever. Most are vets and up in age so I can't hold too much against them. And don't worry, Larry, you're not one of them!
