Resident Courses for promotion points- why are they so hard to find?

This list is from AR 350-1 and earn you 10 promotion points no matter how long they are.
Most resident courses are 4 points per week with exceptions. AR 600-8-19 has a comprehensive list.
One notable exception are MOS-producing courses, which never award points.

Hi. I retired as a CW4 and the soldiers that worked for me were a priority. Specially towards their Civ, Mil, education. The resident courses that you are referring to are sitting down courses which sum up to 70+ points. Now. If you are a young E4 trying to get those points, which you have to sit down in a classroom it is almost impossible for them to get away from the unit so many times since they are worth only 10 points. I was a maintenance MI officer and I had 25-30 soldiers in my shops. A lot of E4 eager to get promoted. This courses that are usually at Division level can only take so many soldiers on every class. Now you explain to me how in the hell this is fair. Soldiers are sent to this courses not just base on merit but for whatever other reasons. So they sit in a class room for 2-3 weeks just to get the points and learned jack. So do not tell me that all soldiers stack their points with BS courses. By the way I retired in 2005 and yes I was an NCO. I busted my butt in college, ACCP, Trainings, and any other type ways to get points. Made E5 in 2 years, E6 in 5 years and I was a CWO1 in 8 years. Made CW4 below the zone and was not able to make CW5 because a tragedy in my family force me to retired. This new promotion points expectations are BS because you have to rely on someone to send you to courses or schools that everyone in a Division is waiting to go because they also need the points. So you are saying that this is ok. This is demoralizing for soldiers that want to stay in and can not get promoted because they do not have the way or the units do not allow them to attend this courses. If you can deploy forget the 20 points. By the way I also have a Bachelors degree in Business an associate degree in Electronic Engineering. Which I completed while on active duty. My cutoff scores were 892 for E5 and 998 for E6. The reason I made E6 at 998 was because I had 987 points and 82nd Abn Div gave us an extra 20 points for being in Jump Status. Now I was missing awards. So do not tell me that it is BS to do a course that gives you DA Form 87 weather you are sitting in a class room or you do it on your own time. Because that soldier that does it online, book or whatever is just doing everything he can to advance to the next rank. They learn just if not more than a soldier that sits in a classroom. But being and NCO I hope that you are guiding, helping, mentoring, your soldiers E4 and E5 so they can get promoted. Also enhancing your career or providing ideas on how to solve this new promotion system. While enhancing and developing yours, doing your job, taking care of families, and mission at the same time. I know I did for the 27 years I was in. But if you are great.
