What's the easiest way to determine what unit citations to wear?

I've had difficulty in the past in determining which unit citations I was authorized to wear. The worst(best) example I can give is the WWII French Fourragere. When I arrived at my unit I was told I had to have it, yet for every inspection, ceremony, and formal event was instructed to remove it. I was also recently told by one of my NCOs that we were no longer authorized to wear it. I have tried using the interwebs but cannot find a definitive answer.

Unit citations are covered in 670-1- and the DA Pam- for instance- the 82nd was awarded the WWII French Fourragere- but 18thABC was not established till after the war, so when you moved from 82nd to Corps- off it came. As for unit citation ribbons- you wear what the unit has been awarded, then when you leave off they come-Unless you were in the unit when it was awarded, of during the time the award covers.

Your unit should have a list of authorized unit citations and normally can be found on a units web page, but always go with what is put out by your leaderdship

For temporary wear unit awards, just go with whatever 1SG or CSM tells you to wear. That's the easiest way... ;o) You CAN go to HRC records, but I'm not sure how far back those records go. For permanent wear, it gets a bit more complicated because there is often a lag time (sometimes years) from the citation being awarded and the final permanent orders posted in HRC records.
