NATO's original mission was primarily to provide collective defense for member nations (particularly Western Europe, the US, and Cananda) in order to deter Soviet aggression in Europe and promote peace. NATO's expansion after the end of the Cold War and collapse of the Soviet Union has always been a thorn in the side of Russia. Although Ukraine is not a member of NATO, it is a partner (with the individual partnership action plan). Now that Russia is intervening aggressively in Ukraine again, if NATO is unable to effectively address this problem, will it be in danger of losing it's original relevance in Europe? How should NATO be addressing this crisis?

Very good question CPT Johnson. NATO needs to come to terms on common ground and find a solution to stabilize that region. Russia is no small easy feat however, NATO exists for reasons and politics just are not working as well as they should against Russian aggression. NATO may need to find other ways to hurt their economy through trade embargos or by other means to cut them off from the rest of the world through higher taxes, etc. We can use a show of force but will that really scare or persuade them? Likely just stall them so that they can come back at another angle. NATO is doing what it can but may be losing some credibility in the minds of many who question their approach in Europe today.
