Without military safety briefings, are you surprised you survived childhood?

Some of us are more accident prone than others. Some of us are lucky that we made it through our childhood alive! What is the image from childhood that haunts your memories? I experienced electric fences in the WORST possible ways as a dumb kid. Those toys from the 70's have left scars all over me! Share your experiences.

Never rode in a car seat
Never wore seatbelts (until I started driving)
Rode in the back of station wagons & pickups (while it was legal)
Never wore a helmet when riding a bike (until I had kids)
Walked to elementary school on my own
Walked to the local mart to buy cigarettes for the old man
Played ball in the street almost daily
How the hell did I make it this far???

We are raising people to be victims. We talk about resiliency but are not teaching people how to stand up for themselves (without making it a federal case) and bounce back from set backs.

Define "from." I lived here for about 15 years. Then moved away for a decade. Came back in 2011. Never really claimed it as home, though. You?

Remember thinking 25 was old? When I hit 20, 30 was old. When I hit 30, 60 was old. I'm nearing 40 and 85 is old. The gap had been widening and I never even realized it.
I remember telling someone, "I'm 19 and I wish I could be 19 forever." And the fact that this was SIXTEEN years ago blows my mind.
Just can't believe I'm nearly 35 already. Ridiculous.

SSgt (Join to see), yeah. It's always going to be "home." I was born there. My parents were too. We moved away because my dad was Army and ultimately came back, until it was my turn to join the service.
I've lived away from home now for 13 years, but Oklahoma isn't home to me. For my kids, it is...just not to me.

Very surprised. I spent almost 5 months in the hospital due to all the different injuries I endured while having "FUN" as a child. My poor mother sure had her hands full. The medical bills were crazy $$$.
