I am currently serving in USAR w/ 6Yr Contract. Can I choose to serve active duty for part? Can my next contract be 1/2 Active & 1/2 Reserve?

For Active Assignment during my current contract, how much control do I have on what units I serve with? Will they give me a list of units with vacancies? Also I'm currently a 68W but will do ROTC during my undergrad; what AOC am I qualified for?
During my next contract, I want to spend part active and part reserves so I can go to med school during the second half to get my MD and become a 61N.

As a Reservist under contract, you have two paths to active duty. 1.) Conditional release from the Reserve Component to enlist Regular Army, approved by HQ USARC, and vacancy available for your MOS and Rank, per the Prior Service business rules as dictated by Human Resources Command. Difficult to get approved unless you have an extremely meritorious case and your unit is over strength in your MOS, plus you have to be eligible under the Prior Service rules for a Regular Army vacancy. Several planets have to line up perfectly. 2.) Find a slot for AGR (Active Duty Reservist) in your rank and MOS. Usually that is E6 and above.
Your only other path to active duty would be to volunteer for a USAR unit on mobilization orders, but that will only last for the length of the scheduled deployment. Or, you can complete your 6 year contract with the USAR, then apply for a Regular Army enlistment under the prior service rules. It is not entirely impossible to get released to enlist Regular Army, but its a long tedious process with no guarantee of getting approved. Used to be easy, but not anymore. Good Luck

AD and Reserve contracts are two separate contracts and do not play well with each other.

no unless you submit for conditional release and knowing that active component has an open slot open and available. there might be complications if you received a bonus.

Roger that. Any incentives, such as bonuses and the Select Reserve GI Bill with kicker, are tied to the unit and MOS, and anything already paid out has to be paid back and the rest forfeited.
