Survival skills for sure (build an igloo, etc.). Then there are are character skills. Honesty, trustworthiness, etc. Sure my parents started me off right but the MIL side hammered them home. If you don't get on board with them, at some point you'll get squished. Then the life skills that you just can't unload. Wrapping the toothbrush in the washcloth, using a car antenna as a cleaning rod, you name it. The things a typical MIL can MacGyver up are legend.
