Will a SGT get demoted for not completing BLC? If so, what is the time frame in which BLC is needed to be completed?

Active Duty SGT got promoted from SPC to SGT on 01NOV2015 with no WLC/BLC completed. Keep in mind WLC/BLC wasn't required for promotion to SGT before STEP which was implemented 01JAN2016. My question is will a SGT get demoted to SPC for not completing BLC? If so, what is the time frame in which BLC is needed to be completed. Before anyone starts commenting on here, I want ACTUAL FACTS IN WHICH I CAN FIND IN A REGULATION...not no BS that people think is true. I want actual facts in which it states in a regulation that a SGT will get demoted to SPC due to BLC not being completed in a certain time frame. I have read other posts in regards to this that says 12 months or 18 months but with NO EVIDENCE that states this. I will believe it once I see it in a regulation.

have you tried google, try ar600-8-19, its been a while so it might have changed, as an nco you should be able to locate this information on your own instead of enlisting others to do it for you, if you cant take care of yourself how will you take care of your troops, do the home work S-1, G-1 , regulations, and finally just get the ncoes cource done, I have seen this happen conditionally promoted 12 months to get the ncoes in, I was one ssg-sfc

so in your promotion order did it give you a time frame to complete this ncoes, can also tell you when I retired 2014 you didn't get promoted e-4/e-5 without wlc first, e-5/e6 w/o blc, since I've been in the army longer than you have been alive pldc/wlc has always been a prerequisite to promotion even before step

You may have been in the Army longer than I have been alive but your facts aren't true. Before STEP, the only requirement for SGT was SSD1, no WLC/BLC. And no it's not in the promotion orders.

SGT (Join to see) - back in my time it was called pldc, you need to go back a little further, when you research so based on my answer for me it was correct at that time, as was bnoc, now when I got promoted to sfc I had to have slc completed with in 1 year that was back in 1999, so what happened since I left in 2014 what has become of wlc is it no longer required, but blc is, ok no brainer have you enrolled into blc, if your high speed low drag and want to move on to the next level its up to you, you need to keep pushing your CoC, promoted prior to step you should be grandfathered, and as an e5 you should be given priorty over spc(p) to attend blc, just because of the change, the only other thing is if your CoC cant get it done, submit IG complaint, I will keep researching

An NCO should be resourceful, which is exactly what he is doing. Your “Don’t ask for help” mentality isn’t becoming of a MSG. Your job is to be a resource for lower ranking NCO’s. Hopefully you pick up that mentality before making SGM.

I still feel it is open to interpretation, but I'm looking elsewhere to see if I can find anything else more current or revised as of this year.

Thank you for your input but Paragraph 18 talks about voluntary reduction in the National Guard and Reserves.

SGT (Join to see) - Go on the HRC website and look at the STEP concept. That has the new policy changes for professional development. There are plenty of articles that state NCOES has to be completed within 24 months of pinning, but I'm not finding the regulation.

I have read those too and no regulation on where it states 24 months. There is a table in AR 600-8-19 that states 24 months to be completed if pinned with no NCOES but I believe that part in the regulation is for NG and AR.

Not to sound rude, but why don't you petition to attend school? You are already an E5, so your unit should have you at the top of the OML, anyway.

You would think I would be at the top of the OML but everytime I go to BN schools, they say all slots are taken. Been on standby multiple times and no luck.

Have you spoken to your chain about this? I'm sure if you have brought this up with the first sergeant and your commander, I don't see any reason why the BC or BN XO wouldn't step in and see what is going on. Clearly your unit isn't doing anything to follow the OML, which is created by the BN.

Brought it all the way up to BN CDR and BN CSM. It is an ongoing issue especially because BN schools in my unit are saying SPC(P) are more priority than SGT. I understand where they are coming from but that's holding up SGTs from going to BLC.
