ENS (Join to see) - M1911A1 properly tuned up by a decent gunsmith. But, where you don't want to disturb sleeping neighbors unnecessarily . . . then the Mk23 Mod0 may be a bit more subtle and about as effective in close quarters to medium ranges. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)

PO3 Michael James - It turns out a more or less similar civilian version of the USSOCOM weapon is available for routine commercial sale. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)

Honestly I carry a semi auto, but everyone saying the "faster reload speeds" if you can't defend yourself from an attacker with 4-8 cartridges you probably need to go to the range more.

But is that the point and nature of this post?its about the weapon you carry which carrying you do in self defense not the range. Also most people don't use their carry guns at the range except to get a feel for it or every once in a while make sure it's still reliable. Besides that's everyone I know including myself has range guns and carry guns.

At least I was on a Police Dept that did regular qualification, three range trips per year daytime, one trip nighttime fire, shoot don't shoot with projection screen also. Classroom on firearms also. each range trip was qualification with issued handgun, Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun and now also M4s. The Department also has armorers to repair and maintain the weapons when needed. Also each time We went to the range We fired off our old ammo and were given fresh new loads. On duty We carried only Dept issued weapons with Dept issued ammo, nothing else was authorized. Anytime a round of ammo was used on duty a (usually short) report had to be written to account for the use of the ammo and the Department replaced the round. That was about control, monioring and accountability for the use of firearms

I carry a Ruger 380 with an extra magazine and spare ammo in my ditty bag. I also carry a North American 22 revolver. Tried carrying something bigger. I found out what a lot of other folks know. If your weapon is too big and heavy; you wind up leaving it at home or under vehicle seat. All I want is something that will get me out of a jam in case I've been caught off guard.
