Always interested to hear what people's reasons are/were for getting out. Were you at the pinnacle of your career? Did you get a job offer on the civilian side? Did something happen that put a bad taste in your mouth towards your respective Service? Or, did you just plan on doing your initial enlistment and it was time to move on to other things?

I exited Active Duty as i was pregnant with our 3rd child and daycare costs were about to be absurd. On a SGT paycheck it didn't make financial sense for me to stay in. Couple that with my husband just landing a great job and I'd have been up for PCS and it made sense.

I left the reserves because it wasn't fun anymore and I was happy with what I'd done but didn't want to be in anymore. I didn't like how the younger soldiers cried wolf all the time, and was being accused of things that weren't true. Time to leave on my terms so I did.

I don't regret either decision, I have a job I love now and am happy with where my life has gone!

Wow, what a journey, Ma'am. I think as long as anyone is happy with where they've gone and can be proud of their Service, that's when it's a win-win.

I was young and stupid. Figured the grass was greener on the other side. Boy...did I learn.

I've talked with a lot of veterans who claim the same thing, young and stupid. In retrospect they regret the decision to get out. When I reenlisted for an ASI/new MOS I learned that the grass was not greener on the other side. I'm hoping that since I've already got that lesson under my belt, I won't need to learn it again! Thanks Greg.

About the same here. In my last year I was ask to return to England TDY and asked if I could get some leave with the TDY, it was approved. A week before I was to leave TDY, my leave was cancelled, "Not Feasible". I thought no one would have that control over me again. But there are so many jobs that the owners/managers have that type of control over those that work under them. The military is just a very large business. I ended up going to school and later became an Air Traffic Controller and had a good career and still had the same shit over my head some the time. Should I of stayed in and lasted 40 years, I would of retired 2 months ago.

I just spent two weeks in Europe, Florence and Northern Italy (got to visit where my grandparents where born and married, what a trip), drove through Geneva and Zürich and Paris. Looking back I think that staying in and be able to live in other countries would of been great. But given a chance to do it over, how many of us would change anything?

I made E-9, and the only way to get a Command CMC job was to be totally political - and that isn't me. One of my kids was starting high school and I didn't want to disrupt her education AGAIN. I was in a geo-bach billet and hated being away from my wife and kids.

HELLO RETIREMENT!!!

It wasn't a difficult decision for me.
