Soutache
HA! Bet that topic get a lot of views. This is actually about uniforms. I was thinking that female NCOs that opt to wear the skirt in lieu of pants should have a gold soutache braid an inch above the bottom of the hem of the dress as there already is on the cuffs coat. I never liked how you lost that symbol of office just for wearing the skirt. The big stripes the pants would be a bit ridiculous and probably too stiff. What do yall think?

I attached a pic of a soutache for those who may be clueless.

You know....and I'm not aiming this at any ONE individual - but at any male individual that thinks they are a style maven for women......

Every stinking time men try to develope something for women in the military to be stylish we (men) F#$% it up royally. It's one thing to try to develope something for the field - but for heaven's sake - let's keep our fingers out of the female styling arena shall we.....

It has nothing to do with style and everything to ensure there is a uniform equivalence across the uniforms. I have a panic attack on the few days a year when I have to wear civilian clothes to work. This has nothing to do with style. Do you know why there are different braids on the our covers between NCOs, company grade, field grade, and general officers? so you can tell at a distance who they are. It may be more or less irrelevant today but that is the purpose for all of that. Wait.. you're in the navy. You have entirely different uniforms for you various grade. In the Army, we add a bit of trim here, take a bit of epaulet there...

SSG Kevin McCulley I've said it before and I'll say it again.....there's a reason the Navy has shoulder boards and ranking stripes ....so you Army guys can count them and figure out what rank we are. We even have them all bright and shiny so you Army types can see them across the room.

I actually work in a joint command and I discovered how awesome Chiefs are. No disrespect to Army Senior NCOs but the roles are just different. Some of the best mentorship I've received professionally and personally has been from a Chief and a Senior Chief I respect very much. As to Navy ranks, once someone told me to turn them upside down in my head I was like, "uh.. OH!"

Yeah...I mentioned something similar to an Army type once - went something to the effect: "Army likes to keep the water off the top of their heads, thus the stripes point like a roof. Navy likes to keep the water from the ocean out of the ship, thus the stripes point like a ship" That phrase seemed to turn the light on for everyone in their unit..even the Colonel.

That would probably look hideous. Just my opinion though.

yeah I'm tracking, but horizontal stripes in certain areas just don't look too great SSG Kevin McCulley in my opinion. I'm sure some females will be along to voice their opinion for themselves.
