Im at fort Sam Houston and my report date at fort Benning is Jan 2017 and my first born will due in Nov. I'd want my newborn and my spouse to rest and recover from the delivery. No physical or emotional stress from packing and moving to a new post nd worrying about getting situated again for the baby and spouse. I'm thinking about doing the compassionate reassignment, do I have a chance to get approved? I dont mind if It's only a temporary one but I'd want them to be healthy and strong before moving. Then, I can go to Benning.

Doubt it very much. I put in for one when my son was determined to have life threatening allergies to peanut dust. At Fort Rucker, the vehicles would all be coated brown from all the harvesting dust. 106* fever led us to the hospital for 3 weeks. Ever try to do a spinal tap on a 2 year old that is literally dying? Poor kid had so much blood drawn that his arms were completely black from all the bruising. Begged for a compassionate reassignment and was denied. Those ass hats in Washington told me to bring my child back for more complete testing.....from the same Doctor that told me to evacuate him immediately from the area. Typical Army. Bring your child back to die so we can autopsy him to get our paperwork straight and reconsider approving your compassionate reassignment. So I doubt that they will be of much use to you. But never take someone else's word on things like this. Submit ASAP and start praying. Best of luck.

It won't qualify for compassionate unless there was a medical reason why you couldn't make it to your new duty station in January. Branch could amend your orders with a later report date, but again, you would probably have to have a valid reason why you couldn't report in January with a due date of Nov. If the due date and report date were the same month, then that would be valid. But it never hurts to try. If I were you, I would ask for a 30 day amendment to your report date so you have at least 8 weeks from due date and report date. Better chance of approval if you ask for something small and reasonable than something big. Call your branch.

unlikely. A lot of women are back to work after four or six weeks

TSgt Frank Shirley - I think you missed the point. HE is talking about his spouse. I doubt the Army will give a compassionate reassignment because he wants his wife to rest for a few months after his kid is born. Two months old is fine for traveling 1000 miles. If his wife needs more than two months to recover from childbirth because of an actual medical issue then maybe. But rest to be healthy and strong? Unlikely.
