My unit just went through conversion in August '16. To me the biggest difference is, where SAMS-E took two or 3 key strokes to complete a particular function, GCSS Army takes 5-6. Also, GCSS Army is "role-based," so if you aren't a clerk or a maintenance manager, your rights on the system are limited. Lastly, the system is Torres and designed for everyone to have viewer access and rights. Meaning that if the BN, BDE, or DIV CO wants to fact-check your brief, they can at ANY time. I actually like the system. And like anything else, don't fear the "new tech." Dig into the system, learn the T-Codes. Don't wait on others to come and teach you. I've seen CW2s get plucked up to DIV because they know GCSS Army and their peers don't. I know that's a lot, but that's about as BLUF as I can be on GCSS Army.

GCSSARMY is a new system. We've had the legacy systems for so long that it's difficult to transition. I myself, have been in a 92A2O slot, as a 91B because we didn't have clerks, and I became proficient in SAMSE. We just got the fielding class for our Unit, and the clerks we have, have no idea what they're doing. They can't figure out work orders, PRNI, service schedules. It's incredibly frustrating. The theory sounds great, but the reality at least in my unit is aggravating

there was rumor in SLC that clerk positions in Support Companies may go away and the mechanics will have to deal with ordering and processing parts, did you hear anything about that? Was it just a rumor?

I've heard something like that, that there will eventually be barcodes on everything, parts, components like engines t-case etc, and the trucks themselves and the mechs will have a scanner or tablet type thing they log into and scan their jobs to update man hours, 02 parts, services in real time. The system is awesome. Its a system that has been around for years many huge companies use it. Glad the Army upgraded to a system where we can work from virtually anywhere and be able to make sure the proper paperwork is done.
