Mine. Selectee for E7 in 7 years, 10 months. I didn't extend for the promotion for a number of reasons.

After 9/11 when the Navy rapidly expanded the Master-at-Arms rating you would see E7s that had 5-6 years of service. I have seen some nuclear trained guys make E7 at 7 years.

I spent 3 yeas in the Army 11/54 - 10/57 as a Combat Engineer discharged as an E4. I enlisted in the AF 4 months later 3/58 as an E4 as a carpenter (I cross-trained into data processing) and discharged 4 years later as an E4, there just wasn't any promotions.in the AF. I could not reenlist in the 93 days, with a RE Code RE/93.

I had a good job lined up and started it. But my wife came down with hepatitis two weeks later. My only concern was getting my wife medical care all branches turned me down.

The Army said yes but only as an E2 and I had to retake basic. That was OK with me. That was 3/62. Promotions were wide open. So I was able get promoted to E7 in April 66. Exactly 49 months later in April 66. On 6/20/68 I was appointed an Army W1.

The big difference was being in the "right-place-at-right-time." And the buildup, for Vietnam. The Army was so nice to me

CW3 (Join to see) - There are certain rates that have a 6 year option on the enlistment which creates a bunch of 1.5 year E-5's. If you get a hot runner they test for 1st Class at 3.5 and CPO at 5.5 years.
